Hello! I just found your site today and am so excited to see this work! I just finished a book about grading for growth (and broader than academic standards) and can't wait to dig into your work more. Mine will come out in April with Corwin Press. I was using the word "mastery assessment," and I hope there is still time to make the change. Your argument is compelling. Thank you for sharing your thinking.

Yeah, I get why they’re stepping away from “mastery grading.” Words really do carry weight, and if a term causes confusion or discomfort, it’s smart to rethink it. My old prof used a similar alt grading method, and it totally changed how I viewed learning. Btw, unrelated but useful—someone asked me, can I use a 529 for a down payment on a house https://www.fastexpert.com/blog/can-you-use-a-529-plan-to-buy-a-house/ ? Turns out, not exactly, but kinda yes if it’s for student loans.
